fax
add_fax_file
Puts a PDF from the person’s own disk on their XipFax draft. A photo of any kind, such as a JPEG, PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF or AVIF, goes as a PDF made from it first on their computer, upright as a photo viewer shows it: on a Mac, `sips -Z 2100 -s format pdf <photo> --out <name>.pdf` makes one, upright and at most 2,100 pixels on its long side. Any other kind of file, such as a Word file, goes once saved as a PDF. Work out the PDF’s size in bytes and its SHA-256 first, with a command such as `shasum -a 256 <file>`, and give both. The answer is an address good for 15 minutes and the headers to send with the file: PUT the file’s exact bytes there with each of those headers, such as with `curl --upload-file <file> -H "<name>: <value>" "<address>"`, then call finish_fax_file. The address takes this file alone. PDFs only, 40 MB at most.
add_fax_file_from_url
Puts a PDF at a public address on the person’s XipFax draft: XipFax fetches it from the link, which must answer with the PDF itself, and reads its pages. Answers the document, ready to send, with its pages; refused, saying why, where XipFax can’t fetch it, or the PDF is locked, unreadable or takes the fax past the pages a fax may hold, and then nothing is added. For a file on the person’s own disk, use add_fax_file. Give send_fax its id.
add_fax_file_link
An address where the person adds their pages to their XipFax draft from their own browser, PDFs or photos, with no sign-in there: for a file you can’t reach or pass to add_fax_file, such as one on their phone or one attached to this chat. Give the address to the person alone, since whoever holds it can add pages to their draft. It works once, for 30 minutes. Ask them to add their pages there, press “Done adding pages”, and tell you when they’re done; then call finish_fax_file_link with its link_id.
find_fax_number
Finds the fax number of the IRS office that takes a form or a notice, from XipFax’s list of offices, read from the IRS’s own pages. Give the form or the notice by its name or number alone, such as Form 2848, SS-4 or CP2000. Where the IRS gives a number for each state, give the place too.
get_fax
How a fax of the person’s went, by its id, as send_fax gave it: whether it is sending and how far it has got, delivered, or failed and why, and when it is tried again, with its pages, its price and its times. Answers a fax they received too. For a delivered fax’s confirmation, use get_fax_confirmation.
get_fax_confirmation
The confirmation of a fax the person sent that was delivered: one page that says who received how many pages, from whom and when, which they can pass on. Answers a link that reads it, as a PDF, for a few minutes: give the person the link. Refused, saying why, for a fax not delivered.
finish
finish_fax_file
Once the file’s PUT has answered 200, has XipFax read it back and count its pages. Answers the document, ready to send, with its pages; refused where the file never arrived, is locked or unreadable, or takes the fax past the pages a fax may hold. Give send_fax its id.
finish_fax_file_link
Once the person says they’re done adding their pages at the address add_fax_file_link gave, answers the documents it put on their draft, ready to send, with their pages. Until they’ve pressed “Done adding pages” there, added is false, there are no documents, and ask says what to ask of them: to add their pages there, press “Done adding pages”, and tell you when they’re done; then call again. Give send_fax their ids, with any others you added, in the order you added them.
send
send_fax
Sends the person’s XipFax draft to an office, by its office_id from find_fax_number, or to a fax number in the United States, its territories or Canada. Give document_ids, as finish_fax_file gave them, in the order you added them. It goes at once only where the person has a plan and chose Send straight away for you, when they connected you or since. Otherwise nothing is sent: the answer is a link where they look the fax over, send it and pay where they have no plan, so give them the link and never say it went. A draft with no pages, or with other pages than those you name or in another order, also answers a link, where they add or check them.
send_fax_link
A link that opens XipFax’s send screen with the fax number filled in: an office by its office_id from find_fax_number, or a fax number in the United States, its territories or Canada. The person adds their pages there, signs in and pays.
quote
quote_fax
The price of sending one fax of a number of pages with XipFax, without a plan, from XipFax’s price list.

XipFax — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can XipFax do?
It exposes 11 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: add_fax_file, add_fax_file_from_url, add_fax_file_link, find_fax_number, finish_fax_file, finish_fax_file_link and 5 more. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
What is XipFax mostly used for?
Its tools cluster around fax, send and finish. That is what this server is built to work with — the grouping comes from the actual tool names, not from a category we assigned.
Is XipFax working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 1031 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect XipFax?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does XipFax need an API key?
No. XipFax completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 11 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is XipFax?
It answers our handshake in 1031 ms on average, which is faster than 4% of all working MCP servers we measure. That is on the slow side — worth knowing if the tool sits inside an interactive loop. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
