Liveness. Every remote endpoint gets a real MCP initialize handshake every 15 minutes — 11 505 checks so far. A server that answers with an authorization challenge counts as alive: it runs, it just wants a key. This distinction matters and nobody else makes it.

Installs. Weekly downloads from npm and PyPI. Stars measure how many people liked a link; downloads measure how many ran the thing.

Tools. Read from each server with tools/list and stored with the date. When a server stops exposing a tool, we keep the date it disappeared — that is a breaking change shipped without an announcement, and it is invisible anywhere else.

Repositories. Stars, licence, last commit and whether the source still exists, pulled from GitHub.

We do not copy READMEs as page content. The author's own repository will always outrank a copy of it, and a catalogue built from copies is worth nothing to anyone.

We do not invent ratings. There are no stars, no scores out of ten, no "editor's choice" — only measurements you can verify by running the same check yourself.

We do not sell placement in rankings. If that ever changes, paid slots will be marked as such, and the security section will stay out of it entirely.

Denis Kataev, an independent developer building and running his own products since 2016 — among them a paint-colour database, a VIN decoder and an audio toolkit. mcpbeat is a solo project, not a company product, which is exactly why it can say that a vendor's server has been silent for a week.

Everything here is written and checked by one person. There is no editorial team to hide behind: if a number is wrong, it is my mistake, and the contact page goes straight to me.

The data is open under CC BY 4.0: full CSV exports of every server, skill and tool are at /data/, no key and no signup. If you find a number that looks wrong, the raw file will tell you where it came from.
