Nothing serious here today

Today is the operative word: we check ContrastKit every 15 minutes and re-read its code on every release. Watch it and you find out the day that stops being true.

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

contrast
check_contrast
Compute the WCAG 2.x contrast ratio between a text (foreground) color and a background color, with pass/fail for AA, AA large text, AAA, AAA large text and non-text UI (3:1). Handles translucent colors. Read-only. Same engine as GET /api/contrast.
convert
convert_color
Convert a CSS color to hex, rgb() and hsl(), with its relative luminance, its contrast on white and on black, and the better text color (black or white) to put on it. Read-only. Same engine as GET /api/convert.
palette
check_palette
Contrast ratio for every pair of 2 to 12 colors (up to 66 pairs), highest first, each flagged against the chosen WCAG level. Use it to see which brand colors can be used together for text. Read-only. Same engine as GET /api/palette.
suggest
suggest_accessible_color
For a failing color pair, find the closest color (same hue and saturation, lightness changed as little as possible) that meets the chosen WCAG level. Adjust the foreground (default), the background, or both (best first). Read-only. Same engine as GET /api/suggest.

ContrastKit — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can ContrastKit do?
It exposes 4 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: check_contrast, check_palette, convert_color, suggest_accessible_color. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is ContrastKit working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 187 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect ContrastKit?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does ContrastKit need an API key?
No. ContrastKit completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 4 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is ContrastKit?
It answers our handshake in 187 ms on average, which is faster than 80% of all working MCP servers we measure. That puts it in the quick quarter of the ecosystem. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
