Nothing serious here today

Today is the operative word: we check topo^alpin every 15 minutes and re-read its code on every release. Watch it and you find out the day that stops being true.

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

avalanche
avalanche_bulletin
The danger level where someone is going in the Alps, from the official avalanche bulletin: give a place name or the name of a warning region, or lat and lon, or a region id. The elevation of a named place or point is looked up unless you give elevationM. atPlace holds the level for that elevation and time of day and the avalanche problems there; reports hold who issued the bulletin, when, until when and when the next is due, all its ratings and problems, and its texts: main message, danger description, snowpack, weather and tendency. Set when=next for the following bulletin once it is out.
avalanche_coverage
Is there an avalanche report at all right now, and in which regions? Lists every warning region in the Alps with a current report, grouped by warning service, with validity. Off season most regions have none. Contains no danger levels: use avalanche_bulletin for those.
avalanche_overview
How is the avalanche situation in a wider area of the Alps, such as Tyrol or the Valais? Give the name of a place or warning region, or lat and lon, with an optional radius, or a warning service. Returns every report for the area with its danger levels per elevation, avalanche problems and main message. For one destination use avalanche_bulletin.
avalanche_region
Does a summit, destination or point lie in an avalanche warning region of the Alps, in which one, and does it have a current report? Takes the name of a place or of a region, or up to 20 points such as start and summit of a tour. Also names other regions within 2 km.
mountain
mountain_forecast
The weather forecast at a place in the Alps, for its elevation: weather, precipitation, fresh snow, freezing level, temperature, wind and gusts, sunshine and thunderstorm risk, in six-hour periods of local time for up to ten days. Computed from several weather models like the forecast in the topo^alpin app.
mountain_huts
The mountain huts nearest to a place in the Alps, or to where the user stands: name, distance and direction in a straight line, elevation and the difference to the place, mountain hut or self-catering, operator, beds and contact, as far as OpenStreetMap has them. Not opening times, free places or prices.
station
station_observations
What the weather stations near a place in the Alps measure now: temperature, snow depth, fresh snow, wind and gusts, each with the time of the measurement, and optionally the last days. Measured, not forecast, at the place and elevation of the station. Stations are chosen by distance and elevation difference, like in the topo^alpin app.
tour
tour_terrain
The terrain of one ski or snowshoe tour in the Alps, by the id from winter_tours: how steep it is and for how long, the aspects of the steep slopes, how much lies in avalanche terrain (ATES and ATM), stretch by stretch, and the grade explained with the words of the SAC scale and who gave it. Terrain only, computed from terrain models; not snow or avalanche conditions.
winter
winter_tours
Ski and snowshoe tours in the Alps at a place: the routes up to a summit, hut or pass, and the routes that start in a valley or at a hut. Each with title, grade in the scale of the language, elevation gain, length, and the start seen from the place. From the guidebook and portal data shown in the topo^alpin app; not current conditions.

topo^alpin — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can topo^alpin do?
It exposes 9 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: avalanche_bulletin, avalanche_coverage, avalanche_overview, avalanche_region, mountain_forecast, mountain_huts and 3 more. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
What is topo^alpin mostly used for?
Its tools cluster around avalanche and mountain. That is what this server is built to work with — the grouping comes from the actual tool names, not from a category we assigned.
Is topo^alpin working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 90 of 90 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 164 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect topo^alpin?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does topo^alpin need an API key?
No. topo^alpin completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 9 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is topo^alpin?
It answers our handshake in 164 ms on average, which is faster than 80% of all working MCP servers we measure. That puts it in the quick quarter of the ecosystem. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
