Nothing serious here today

Today is the operative word: we check The Agents Index every 15 minutes and re-read its code on every release. Watch it and you find out the day that stops being true.

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

listings
my_listings
What the The Agents Index owner dashboard shows about the listings an account owns: each one's status (`status.kind`: review with the expected date, accepted with `liveOn` and `paid` ('express' | 'featured' | null: the paid way that releases it, Featured including Express review), live, refused with the reason, or archived), the listing as it shows, 30 days of real numbers with the 30 before, where AI answers named the product or cited its page, and what it can buy here at this site's prices. Only for the account itself: send its session Cookie header, or its agent key with "Read your listings" as Authorization: Bearer. Same answer as GET https://theagentsindex.com/api/owner/listings. Read-only: corrections go through the dashboard's request form.
search_listings
Full-text search over The Agents Index's Published agents. Returns compact records (name, slug, tagline, url). Fetch depth with get_listing.
best
get_best_of
The Published agents in one category, in the order its category page prints (ranked by what we can confirm: a public price, an API and docs, independent sources, stated limits), as a markdown answer sheet. Payment never moves a row.
categories
list_categories
The Agents Index's categories with their live listing counts, 0 for one with none yet.
compare
compare_listings
Two agents side by side, as markdown: taglines, pricing, API availability, tags — the researched compare facts, honest about unknowns.
listing
get_listing
One agent in full, as answer-first markdown: the summary, then every question on the sheet with its answer, the vendor's own words for it and the URL that proves it. Identical to /{slug}.md and to the HTML page.
send
send_lead
Send a buyer-intent enquiry (lead) to an agent or a whole category on The Agents Index. Keyless. Requires consent:true, a real name, a permanent (non-disposable) email, a message of at least 20 chars, and a target (listingSlug OR categorySlug). Returns { ok, delivered }. Idempotent by (email, target) within 7 days. Nothing here changes a listing's rank, tier or copy.
submit
submit_listing
Submit an agent to The Agents Index: the url alone; we write its name and description from its own pages. Requires an existing signed-in account with verified email; send its session Cookie header on the MCP request, or an agent key the account made at https://theagentsindex.com/dashboard/agents as Authorization: Bearer. Identity and email come only from that session or key. Sign in or explicitly create an account at https://theagentsindex.com/login?next=%2Fsubmit and verify its email before retrying. This tool creates no account and sends no verification email. Returns {httpStatus:201, id, slug, status:'Draft'}; research + the quality gate decide publication. Your own (url, session email) replay within 24h returns httpStatus:200. The fit check starts at once and usually answers within a minute: poll GET https://theagentsindex.com/api/submissions/{id} and wait the Retry-After seconds it sends while fit is "checking". fit then reads "accepted" (it goes live, and the account is mailed), "rejected" (mailed with the reason) or "undecided" (a person looks within 2 days). No session: {httpStatus:401, error:'sign_in_required', message, loginUrl}. Unverified session: {httpStatus:403, error:'email_unverified', message, email, remediation}. Company gate: the account's address, or an address it proved with a code, must be on the submitted website's domain; otherwise {httpStatus:403, error:'domain_unverified', message, domain, remediation, ownerUrl, skip} — POST /api/domain-proof/start {url, email} mails a 6-digit code to an address at that domain, POST /api/domain-proof/verify {proofId, code} redeems it, then submit again. Submitting for someone with no mailbox of your own at the domain? Give the owner ownerUrl (the submit page with the site filled in): they prove it there with a code, or skip the proof as skip says. Personal mailboxes (gmail, outlook…) never prove a domain. No refusal creates a listing. Validation returns 400; duplicate/claim responses return 409. Read tools remain keyless.
subscribe
subscribe_newsletter
Double opt-in subscribe to the The Agents Index digest of new and freshly re-verified agents. Provide an email; returns { ok }. Nothing is sent but one confirmation mail until the person at that address uses its link, which works for 7 days; an unconfirmed address is deleted after 30. Every issue carries a one-click unsubscribe.

The Agents Index — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can The Agents Index do?
It exposes 9 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: compare_listings, get_best_of, get_listing, list_categories, my_listings, search_listings and 3 more. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is The Agents Index working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 318 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect The Agents Index?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does The Agents Index need an API key?
No. The Agents Index completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 9 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is The Agents Index?
It answers our handshake in 318 ms on average, which is faster than 51% of all working MCP servers we measure. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
