Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

product
get_product
Get one product by id: full description, links, GitHub repository and stars, whether its link responded when last checked, and every reaction with its source, title, number, date, and original discussion URL.
products
search_products
Find existing products launched since ChatGPT's release (Nov 30, 2022) that already do what you need — check here before building something new. Describe the job in short plain English, e.g. "extract tables from PDF to CSV" or "self-hosted dashboard for coding agents"; English works much better than other languages. Results are ranked by relevance (keyword + semantic). Each result has a one-line description, links, forms, an open-source flag, and community reactions labeled by source (e.g. HN 112 pts). Numbers are shown as each source reports them and are never combined; Tangerine Index does not rate products. Use get_product for the full description and every reaction.
similar
similar_products
List up to 5 products whose descriptions are closest to the given product's description. Similarity is by description embedding only — not quality, popularity, or recency.
trending
trending_products
List the products that drew the most community reaction recently — use it to see what is trending among products launched since ChatGPT's release, or what is trending for a kind of tool (pass need). Ranked by a reaction index computed only from the sources' own numbers: each post reaction (e.g. HN points, Product Hunt votes) is compared with the same source's reactions from the last 14 days (the share it beats, 0–1); a GitHub repository counts by the stars it gained in the period against its own pace over the 28 days before (the fastest get 1 and down); a product's best value per source is added up. Tangerine Index does not rate products. period_days is 3, 7 (default), or 30; data refreshes once a day (as_of). Each result shows the reactions that counted, with each source's raw number.

Tangerine Index — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can Tangerine Index do?
It exposes 4 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: get_product, search_products, similar_products, trending_products. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is Tangerine Index working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 268 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect Tangerine Index?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does Tangerine Index need an API key?
No. Tangerine Index completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 4 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is Tangerine Index?
It answers our handshake in 268 ms on average, which is faster than 51% of all working MCP servers we measure. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
