Put your own value in place of <HETZNER_API_TOKEN> (Hetzner Cloud API token from the Cloud Console (project > Security > API tokens). The server can do exactly what this token allows; use a Read token if the client only needs to read). The author’s registry entry marks it as required.

Optional settings from the registry entry, left out of the block above: HETZNER_READ_ONLY (true: every tool that is not read-only, and hcloud_raw_request with a method other than GET, returns an error without sending a request. Any value other than true, 1, yes, false, 0, no or empty stops the server at startup), HETZNER_CONFIRM_WRITES (true: every tool that is not read-only returns a preview unless the call carries confirm "YES". Friction against mistakes, not a security boundary), HETZNER_DENY_TOOLS (Comma-separated tool name globs (for example hcloud_delete_*,hcloud_raw_request) that always return an error. Deny hcloud_raw_request as well, otherwise denied endpoints stay reachable through it. A pattern that matches no tool stops the server at startup), LOG_LEVEL (Log level of the JSON logs on stderr).

Hetzner Cloud (unofficial) — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

Why is there no uptime for Hetzner Cloud (unofficial)?
Hetzner Cloud (unofficial) runs on your own machine over stdio — there is no network address to reach, so uptime cannot be measured for it by anyone. What can be measured is adoption: the npm package @mguttmann/hetzner-cloud-mcp was installed 301 times last week.
How do I connect Hetzner Cloud (unofficial)?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It runs locally, so the command pulls @mguttmann/hetzner-cloud-mcp straight from npm; nothing to host, nothing to sign up for.
How many people use Hetzner Cloud (unofficial)?
The npm package @mguttmann/hetzner-cloud-mcp was installed 301 times in the last week. Week over week that is +7425%. We show installs rather than GitHub stars on purpose: a star is a bookmark, an install is someone actually running it.
Is Hetzner Cloud (unofficial) open source?
Yes — it is published under the MIT licence, written in TypeScript and 0 stars on GitHub. The source link is on this page, so you can read exactly what it does with your data before you connect it.
