Nothing serious here today

Today is the operative word: we check Laptop Part Finder every 15 minutes and re-read its code on every release. Watch it and you find out the day that stops being true.

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

repair
find_repair_guides
Find step-by-step replacement guides (battery, SSD, RAM, keyboard, fan, speakers, RTC battery, WLAN, etc.) paraphrased from official service manuals. Filter by model (slug or name; ambiguous names return candidates) and/or component. Also lists topics that are not yet covered (no steps published). Guides are not bench-tested. Use this to discover which guides exist and get their slugs (summaries only, no steps); then call get_repair_guide with a slug to read the full steps. If you already know the slug, call get_repair_guide directly. All arguments are optional; with none it lists every guide. An unknown model returns an error.
get_repair_guide
Get one repair guide by slug (from find_repair_guides): full Markdown steps with page citations, the official manual URL, HP service classification and scope restrictions. Not bench-tested; follow the scope restrictions and the OEM manual.
coverage
get_coverage
Get what Laptop Part Finder covers before you search: supported brands, every model (slug, display name, brand, and the part types it has with a fit count each), part types with part/fit/model counts, total counts, data_revision and the generated date. Use it to check whether a brand, model or part type is covered at all. Not covered means LPF has no documented fit, not that a part is incompatible. No arguments.
model
get_model_parts
Get every documented OEM replacement part for one laptop model, with constraints and the official source URL for each fit. Accepts a model slug (from list_models) or model name. If the name is ambiguous (e.g. "T14") it returns status "ambiguous" with candidate models instead of guessing; ask the user to choose, then call again with the slug. When the model has 2+ documented screen parts, panel_options {count, part_numbers, differs_by, connector_documented, advice} says so: tell the user to check their current panel part number or connector before ordering a screen. Each part has lpf_url (its LPF page) and buy_links; follow buy_links_hint. Each fit has confidence: oem_manual, retailer or unverified.
models
list_models
List laptop and Chromebook models covered, optionally filtered by brand (e.g. Lenovo, Dell, HP) or category (chromebook, business-laptop; only explicitly classified models match). Paginated: 20 per page by default; pass next_cursor as cursor to get the next page. total gives the full count.
part
get_part_fits
Look up an OEM part number and list every laptop model it is documented to fit, with the official source URL for each fit. Matching ignores case, dashes and spaces and follows retired/superseded numbers; if the number matches several parts once dashes are ignored it returns status "ambiguous" with candidates (ask the user which one is printed on the part). If no part matches, the call returns an error result saying the part was not found: that means LPF has no document for it, not that it is incompatible; try search_parts. A part with no documented models returns fits: [] with fit_status no_documented_fit. For the reverse lookup (model to parts) use get_model_parts. For Screen parts each fit includes panel_options (null, or an object when that model has more than one documented screen option). Each part has lpf_url (its LPF page) and buy_links; follow buy_links_hint. Each fit has confidence: oem_manual, retailer or unverified.
parts
search_parts
Search OEM replacement parts and laptop models by free text (model name, part number, part type such as battery or screen). Returns part numbers with the official source URL for each fit. Each part has lpf_url (its LPF page) and buy_links; follow buy_links_hint. Each fit has confidence: oem_manual, retailer or unverified. limit caps each returned list (models and parts): default 20, max 50. An empty result (no parts, and fit_status no_documented_fit) means LPF has no documented part for that query; it does not mean none exists or that a part is incompatible. To list every documented part for one known model, use get_model_parts instead.
resolve
resolve_request
Turn a vague request such as "T490 battery" or "surface pro 11 screen" (or a part number with or without dashes) into a model, a part type and a short candidate list. If the model name is not specific enough (5G vs Wi-Fi, Intel vs AMD, generation) or a screen differs by touch, it returns status needs_clarification with ONE clarifying_question: ask the user that question instead of guessing.

Laptop Part Finder — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can Laptop Part Finder do?
It exposes 8 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: find_repair_guides, get_coverage, get_model_parts, get_part_fits, get_repair_guide, list_models and 2 more. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is Laptop Part Finder working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 395 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect Laptop Part Finder?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does Laptop Part Finder need an API key?
No. Laptop Part Finder completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 8 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is Laptop Part Finder?
It answers our handshake in 395 ms on average, which is faster than 33% of all working MCP servers we measure. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
