This one needs environment variables set before it will start: GERMAN_ARCHIVES_CACHE_DIR (Directory for the on-disk response cache, and for the APERTUS volume PDFs kept for reading further pages.), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_TIMEOUT (HTTP timeout in seconds for one request. Image downloads get 120 s to read.), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_MIN_INTERVAL (Least seconds between two requests to one host. Never below 2; database searches and APERTUS volume downloads wait 10.), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_CONTACT (An email address or URL appended to the User-Agent, so an archive can reach whoever runs the server.), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_DOWNLOAD_DIR (An existing folder. When set, the image tools save only inside it; needed to save under ~/Library, such as an iCloud Drive folder.), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_PDF_CACHE_DAYS (Days a downloaded APERTUS volume PDF is kept for reading further pages (at most 30).), GERMAN_ARCHIVES_PDF_CACHE_MB (Most megabytes of APERTUS volume PDFs kept on disk; the least recently read go first (at least 100).). The author declared them in the registry entry; get the values from the project itself.

German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers) — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

Why is there no uptime for German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers)?
German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers) runs on your own machine over stdio — there is no network address to reach, so uptime cannot be measured for it by anyone. What can be measured is adoption: the pypi package german-archives-mcp was installed 814 times last week.
How do I connect German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers)?
Copy the ready config from this page — we generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each with the file path that client actually reads. It runs locally, so the command pulls german-archives-mcp straight from pypi; nothing to host, nothing to sign up for.
How many people use German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers)?
The pypi package german-archives-mcp was installed 814 times in the last week. We show installs rather than GitHub stars on purpose: a star is a bookmark, an install is someone actually running it.
Is German Archives (DDB; BW, NRW, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse registers) open source?
Yes — it is published under the MIT licence, written in Python and 0 stars on GitHub. The source link is on this page, so you can read exactly what it does with your data before you connect it.
