Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

descent
check_descent_eligibility
Check whether a person qualifies for citizenship by descent. Input is the person's direct ancestral line, one entry per generation, starting with relation='self'. Every generation between the person and the ancestor is required, because descent passes generation by generation and a gap changes the answer. Exact dates give the most precise result. Year-only input is accepted and the result carries a caveat; for Ireland, a registration and a birth in the same year cannot be resolved. Args: country: ISO 3166-1 alpha-2, lowercase. Currently 'ie' or 'ca'. line: The direct line, from the user upward. as_of: Evaluation date. Defaults to today. Rules with commencement dates (Canada's Bill C-3) depend on it.
move
get_move_checklist
Step-by-step application checklist for one visa, with sources. Takes a visa_id such as 'es_dnv' or 'pt_d7'. Also returns the fees and any recent rule changes for that visa.
pathway
get_pathway_requirements
Documents, cost, and processing time for a supported descent pathway. Covers the documents to gather, fees, typical processing time and common pitfalls, with official sources.
pathways
list_pathways
List the citizenship-by-descent pathways this server can evaluate. Returns each supported pathway with its summary, official sources and verification date. Countries marked 'planned' have no rules implemented yet and are listed so their status is clear.
rule
get_rule_changes
Recent changes to visa and residence rules that GoThere has verified. Newest first. Each entry has the old and new value and the official source. Args: country: Optional ISO alpha-2 code or English name. since: Optional date; only changes on or after it are returned. limit: Maximum entries, 1 to 100. Default 20.
visa
get_visa_options
Residence visas GoThere has researched for Americans moving abroad. Covers Spain, Ireland, Italy, Mexico and Portugal today. Each option carries the income threshold, fees, processing time, years to permanent residence and citizenship, each with its source URL and the date it was last checked. Args: country: Optional ISO alpha-2 code or English name, e.g. 'es' or 'Spain'. category: Optional 'digitalNomad', 'passiveIncome' or 'work'.

GoThere Citizenship by Descent — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can GoThere Citizenship by Descent do?
It exposes 6 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: check_descent_eligibility, get_move_checklist, get_pathway_requirements, get_rule_changes, get_visa_options, list_pathways. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is GoThere Citizenship by Descent working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 378 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect GoThere Citizenship by Descent?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does GoThere Citizenship by Descent need an API key?
No. GoThere Citizenship by Descent completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 6 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is GoThere Citizenship by Descent?
It answers our handshake in 378 ms on average, which is faster than 35% of all working MCP servers we measure. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
