Available tools 4

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

plan
plan_sermon_series
Lays out a run of Sundays from a start date: each Sunday's name, season, color, lectionary year and appointed readings from the 1979 Book of Common Prayer lectionary, the seasons the run crosses, feasts that fall on those Sundays, and every book read on three or more consecutive Sundays, with the longest such run named as a possible series spine. Rule-based, no generated text.
readings
readings_for_sunday
Returns the appointed Bible readings (first reading, psalm, second reading, gospel, with the alternatives) for a Sunday or major feast from the three-year Sunday lectionary of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer, which is public domain. Give a date (a weekday without its own lessons moves to the next Sunday) or an occasion such as "advent-1", "proper-23", "easter-day" or "christmas-day" with a year of A, B or C. With include_text, adds the passage text from the World English Bible or King James Version, both public domain. Citations only, never another translation.
season
season_for_date
Returns where a date falls in the Western church year: the season (Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Holy Week, Easter, or the season after Pentecost, also called Ordinary Time), the week of the season, the day's observance and liturgical color, the church year and its lectionary year (A, B or C), and that year's Western Easter and Orthodox Pascha. Defaults to today in Mountain Time.
upcoming
upcoming_feast_days
Lists the dated feasts, fasts and holy days in a window: Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter, Ascension, Pentecost, Trinity, Christ the King, Advent, Christmas, the Epiphany, the feasts of our Lord, apostles and evangelists, with each day's color. Applies the 1979 Book of Common Prayer rules that move a feast off a Sunday or out of Holy Week and Easter Week. Optionally includes Orthodox Pascha, Julian-calendar Christmas and Reformation Day.

Church Year — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can Church Year do?
It exposes 4 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: plan_sermon_series, readings_for_sunday, season_for_date, upcoming_feast_days. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is Church Year working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 0 of 92 checks got a reply (0.0%), average response time 91 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
The registry lists Church Year as active — why does it not respond?
The official MCP registry stores what the author submitted; it does not verify that the server still runs. We check the endpoint ourselves, and this one does not answer. Catalogues that copy the registry without checking will show it as working.
How do I connect Church Year?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does Church Year need an API key?
No. Church Year completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 4 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
