Nothing serious here today

Today is the operative word: we check CleanAirData every 15 minutes and re-read its code on every release. Watch it and you find out the day that stops being true.

Available tools 3

Read directly from the server with tools/list, grouped by what they act on. If a tool disappears, we record the date.

city
get_city_air_quality
Historical Clean Air Score, grade, latest annual PM2.5 mean, unhealthy-day share, trend and yearly PM2.5 for one US city. Each city is either an own_record (scored from its own data) or a copied_record (the full record of the nearest scored city, named in source_city, source_state and source_distance_miles). A copied_record describes the source city, not measurements taken in the named city. Values are historical annual data, not the current AQI.
compare
compare_cities
Side-by-side historical records for two US cities with the difference in Clean Air Score and PM2.5. Warnings list any copied record. Each city is either an own_record (scored from its own data) or a copied_record (the full record of the nearest scored city, named in source_city, source_state and source_distance_miles). A copied_record describes the source city, not measurements taken in the named city. Values are historical annual data, not the current AQI.
rank
rank_cities
Cities with the highest Clean Air Score (cleanest first), optionally within one state. By default only cities with their own record are ranked, so copied records do not crowd the list. Each city is either an own_record (scored from its own data) or a copied_record (the full record of the nearest scored city, named in source_city, source_state and source_distance_miles). A copied_record describes the source city, not measurements taken in the named city. Values are historical annual data, not the current AQI.

CleanAirData — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can CleanAirData do?
It exposes 3 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: compare_cities, get_city_air_quality, rank_cities. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is CleanAirData working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 91 of 91 checks got a reply (100.0%), average response time 201 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
How do I connect CleanAirData?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address. You will need your own credentials: it refuses anonymous clients.
Does CleanAirData need an API key?
Yes. Every time we knock, CleanAirData answers with an authorization challenge instead of its tool list — that is how we know it is running and gated rather than broken. Bring your own credentials and it will talk.
How fast is CleanAirData?
It answers our handshake in 201 ms on average, which is faster than 70% of all working MCP servers we measure. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
