with
read_with_eyestill
Opens text in EyeStill, a speed reader shown in the chat as an interactive view. The view shows one word at a time at a single point of focus (RSVP) on a 3D drum, with play, pause, speed (100 to 1,000 words per minute) and position controls. Takes exactly one of: url (a public web article, page or plain-text file; the server extracts its readable text), book (title and/or author of a public-domain book, fetched from Project Gutenberg), or text (any text, such as text from the conversation or an answer composed for reading in the view). Text is displayed while it streams in, so reading can start before it is complete. The text is shown only in the view; the result reports its title and word count. Plain prose reads best: Markdown, tables and code appear as raw text. A text can be opened at a word number (start_word, as reported by the reader's context) or at the first place a phrase appears, such as a chapter heading (start_at). While the user reads, the view shares the current position and passage as context.

EyeStill Speed Reader — questions

Answers built from our own checks of this server.

What can EyeStill Speed Reader do?
It exposes 3 tools, read directly from the server on our last check. Among them: eyestill_fetch_text, eyestill_pace, read_with_eyestill. The full list with descriptions is on this page — we take it from the server itself via tools/list, not from a README. How MCP servers expose tools in the first place →
Is EyeStill Speed Reader working right now?
We send a real MCP handshake every 15 minutes. Over the last 24 hours 5 of 91 checks got a reply (5.5%), average response time 505 ms. The bar chart above shows every period we have measured.
The registry lists EyeStill Speed Reader as active — why does it not respond?
The official MCP registry stores what the author submitted; it does not verify that the server still runs. We check the endpoint ourselves, and this one does not answer. Catalogues that copy the registry without checking will show it as working.
How do I connect EyeStill Speed Reader?
Copy the ready config from this page. We generate it for Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor and VS Code, each in the form that client actually reads. It is a remote server, so there is nothing to install — the client connects to the address.
Does EyeStill Speed Reader need an API key?
No. EyeStill Speed Reader completed a full MCP handshake with us as an anonymous client and listed its tools without asking for anything. All 3 of them are readable on this page. This is what we observed, not what the docs claim.
How fast is EyeStill Speed Reader?
It answers our handshake in 505 ms on average, which is faster than 23% of all working MCP servers we measure. That is on the slow side — worth knowing if the tool sits inside an interactive loop. The comparison comes from our own checks across the whole registry, every 15 minutes.
Is EyeStill Speed Reader open source?
The code is open source: it is published under the MIT licence and 0 stars on GitHub. The licence covers the code in the repository, not the hosted service at eyestill.com, which runs on its operator's own terms.
