# mcpbeat

> in the official registry gets a real JSON-RPC handshake every 15 minutes,
> and every Agent Skill is deduplicated by content hash.

Current state, measured 1 September 2026:

- 26 378 MCP servers tracked, 14 798 of them reachable over the network
- 12 454 answering right now; 2 332 are listed as active but answer nothing
- 33 940 085 checks performed so far
- 60 494 unique Agent Skills after deduplication, 17 451 of them are copies of one another
- 71 vendors publish skills themselves

## What makes this data different

- **Liveness, not listings.** Other catalogues show what a server claims. We show
  whether it answered our handshake minutes ago, and keep the history of when it did not.
- **Real installs, not stars.** Weekly downloads from npm and PyPI. GitHub stars say how
  many people liked a link, not how many run the thing.
- **Deduplicated skills.** One skill repackaged into forty repositories counts once,
  with the copy count attached. Catalogues that skip this overstate the ecosystem several times over.
- **Permissions read from the servers themselves.** We ask each server for its tool list
  and record what it can do — run commands, delete, touch credentials.
- **Everything is downloadable.** CSV exports under CC BY 4.0, no key, no form.
